Who we are

LITRG is an initiative of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, which is an educational charity. Since 1998, LITRG has been working to improve the policy and processes of the tax, tax credits and associated welfare systems for the benefit of those who are least able to pay for professional advice.

We are not part of HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), the government department which deals with tax and tax credits.

The Low Incomes Tax Reform Group is made up of paid staff and an advisory panel of volunteers.

LITRG’s work is also supported by other departments of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, including our external relations team.

Our technical staff are qualified to Chartered Tax Adviser level – the gold standard in tax education. Team members are passionate about using their incredible knowledge and experience to help others to navigate the tax system – particularly those less able to afford to pay for professional advice.

Our What we do page explains more about our mission and work.
